Trishul was directed by Yash Chopra and was released in 1978. In
the words of a magazine of that time, Trishul "catapulted Bachchan
into superstardom". The movie was a major box-office success
running for over 2 years in several centres.
Apparently, when filming was nearing completion, Yash Chopra felt
the movie was lacking something. The screenplay was rewritten and
the movie was filmed again to get it right. Bachchan continued his
run as an "angry young man" in this movie too, singing no songs
(except for a couple of lines) and being grim all through the movie
- similar to his role in Deewar. The softer and romantic parts were
handled by Shashi Kapoor. Hemamalini was beautiful and the song
"Mohabbat bade kaam ki cheez hai" is still a classic.
Highly recommended!
